Former apprentice raising money for Coach Core

A whopping £1059.45 has been donated to Coach Core, all thanks to Daniel.

Daniel, who graduated from our London 2017 programme, has worked tirelessly to raise money and allow others to benefit from the same experiences he had. His support speaks to the powerful and lasting impact our programme can have on individuals, and of course to Daniel’s incredible character!

Daniel showed strength and resilience when he joined Coach Core, looking for a chance to overcome struggles with his speech and threw himself into his apprenticeship wholeheartedly. We covered his impressive story here: #CoachCoreGrads: Daniel, Acting Head Coach at Swiss Cottage School – Coach Core

Fast forward to now, and Daniel is not only coaching but has gone the extra mile (quite literally) to fundraise for us alongside his day job. His fundraising activities included a 100k running challenge, 300k cycle and organised raffles and ran bucket collections at his local matches. Daniel donated the funds to us at the end of June and we are so grateful.

The reason behind my fundraising was that Coach Core & Greenhouse Sports looked past my disability, gave me a chance and brought out the potential I had. After struggling to find a coaching job, I had been in a low place mentally and I will never forget Coach Nathan driving from London to my home near to Cambridge to make sure all the coursework got completed. It was a moment that I will always be grateful for, and it made a lasting impression on me.

For the fundraising, my biggest challenge was having to recover from a muscle injury affecting my lower back and leg as well as having Covid just 10 days before it all started. I have to say a big thank you to my family and friends for getting me through.

When doing a long-term fundraising effort like this, keep focused on why you are doing it. My goal was to give something back to the charities that gave me an opportunity. I felt that to celebrate my 5 years of coaching in London I wanted to give something to other young people, so they could also benefit from the life-changing opportunity that I had.

Daniel

Dan has always inspired others and worked hard to make sports accessible. He once said in an earlier interview that his proudest moment of Coach Core was “helping people with their work… trying to get the most out of the programme”. We’re delighted to see this continue even after his graduation and are so proud of him.

Even after raising this impressive amount, Dan has offered up his skills and continues to support Coach Core. He’s a true inspiration and we can’t wait to see what he achieves next.
