The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge is a match funding campaign where, for seven days only, donations to participating charities are doubled.
Coach Core will be taking part in this year’s event, with our campaign Changing the Game.
The UK is facing record levels of youth unemployment as a result of COVID-19. In fact, right now, 575,000 young people are currently unemployed.
We need to act so we can provide young people with an opportunity to succeed as there is clear evidence that being unemployed when you’re young can have many negative, long-term consequences including: long-term damage to mental health, income and employment prospects.
Through Changing the Game we will:
- Help 200 young people from disadvantaged and challenging backgrounds to access meaningful education and employment opportunities
- Create a generation of relatable, inspiring sports coaches so 500,000 young people can try sport and physical activity, and boost their physical and mental health
- Drive diversity in the workplace and help overcome the stigma around employing young people who are not in education, employment or training.
Coach Core has been effectively changing the lives of young people and their communities for 9 years now and we know how important the work we do is. But don’t just take our word for it:
“I had to leave college early and struggled with my mental health, spending some time in hospital. Due to these challenges I struggled to get a job and ended up working in admin, which I hated. Coach Core has given me hope for the future and something to look forward to. I want to continue as a football coach and hopefully go into the women’s area to get more girls into the sport. This is something I’ve always wanted to do but I’d not known how, I’ve never been given the opportunity or not had the qualifications/ experience. I finally feel like I’m on the right path to get to where I want to be.”
