Coach Core Apprentices help out at Parallel Youth Games

Apprentices from our Surrey and Sussex programmes came together to support the Sussex Parallel Youth Games, a multi-sport event for children and young people with disabilities

The Parallel Youth Games is a ‘mini-Paralympics’, showcasing and celebrating disability sport in Sussex. On Wednesday 11th May, apprentices from our Surrey and Sussex programmes came together to support the event in Crawley. Apprentices planned and coordinated the Boccia and New Age Kurling competitions, including the creation of a fixture list for the competitions and managing and supporting a group of young leaders to referee the matches, among other things. They also designed and delivered activities to engage participants when they weren’t taking part of competitive matches.

“The apprentices did a fantastic job and worked really hard throughout the day, which resulted in a successful event and giving a lot of children a very positive experience of sporting competition! All apprentices were required to use a variety of key skills throughout the day, such as communication, organisation, and some problem solving, and all represented Coach Core and their employers incredibly well throughout the event.”
