The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visit Coach Core Essex

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Coach Core Essex at Basildon Sporting Village where they met new Coach Core apprentices, as well as some of the 30 plus graduates of the programme, before joining in with coaching sessions, including tennis, indoor athletics and a game of Boccia.

Coach Core Essex has been running for almost three years, showing growth and building strong partnerships with local organisations year after year. Their Royal Highnesses met apprentices working with two of these partner organisations: Sport for Confidence and South Essex Gymnastics club, who have been involved with Coach Core Essex since the beginning and have subsequently employed multiple apprentices.

The day was super energetic and filled with lots of coaching sessions in various sports, led by our talented apprentices and graduates!

The Duke and Duchess were introduced to two coaching sessions of tennis and athletics, in which they were then split into two separate groups and joined in with the sessions. The Duchess took to the tennis court with a small group of school children, led by apprentices Joe and Liam from Prosports Solutions, and The Duke joined in on an athletics session of indoor Javelin, led by apprentices Beth and Ellie from Chelmsford Athletics.

Their Royal Highnesses later joined in on a game of Boccia, one of the sports provided by Sport for Confidence, who provide sporting opportunities to individuals who face barriers to participation. Finally, Their Royal Highnesses watched Olympic standard gymnasts in training and a pre-school session run by Coach Core apprentices and graduates at the gymnastics centre, which is the home of South Essex Gymnastics Club.
