Covid-19 Update – 23/2/21

What does the government's latest announcement mean for the sector?

By James Burbidge · 23rd February 2021

Gary Laybourne, our Chief Executive responds to the government’s announcement, which includes plans for community sports and physical activity:

“Based on yesterday’s announcement, I’m delighted to see that the road map to recovery puts strong emphasis on the education and wellbeing of children and the very welcome focus on community sports and physical activity too. I sincerely hope everyone plays their part to ensure that we successfully reach each government milestone outlined today so life can start to resume with a level of normality from this summer.

Whilst it’s a time to celebrate some true positive news, we cannot gloss over the toll this terrible pandemic has had, and is still having, on young people, particularly those facing disadvantage and challenge in their lives. Policy and focus on stopping the ever widening gap for those that have versus those that haven’t, must remain high on the present agenda if we are to avoid the even greater long term effects it will bring.

We will work harder than ever with key individuals and organisations to raise the necessary levels of awareness, support and opportunity to help bring the Coach Core offer to the lives of more young people than ever before. Their employers ability to now start to slowly resume coaching delivery in schools and community clubs in the not too distant future is a major step forwards in helping this rebuild begin.”
