From “feeling like no one” to becoming a role model: Louis’ Coach Core journey

“I was in a spiral of depression and these guys picked me up and my confidence went from 0 to 1000.”  

Louis’ story is one of resilience, growth and purpose. A powerful example of how the Coach Core Foundation apprenticeship programme is changing lives.  

Before joining Coach Core, Louis had faced years of bullying and exclusion. Over a five-year period, he had not completed a full year of school. Personal trauma further complicated his struggles, leaving him feeling isolated and disconnected. Without the right support network around him, he found himself spending time with what he describes as the “wrong crowds.”  

At his lowest point, Louis felt invisible.  

“I went from feeling like no one at the start to I finally started feeling like someone… I started feeling noticed for the first time.” 

A Turning Point  

Joining ReNGage on his Coach Core apprenticeship marked a significant shift for Louis. The structured support and mentorship, provided through the apprenticeship programme by the Coach Core team and his learning coach, gave him belief in himself. Something he hadn’t experienced before.  

Through sport and coaching, he began to rebuild his confidence and develop vital life skills in communication, responsibility, teamwork and leadership. More than just gaining qualifications, Louis found direction and focus.  

The programme didn’t just equip him with employability skills, it helped him rediscover his identity.  

“Whether you’re having a good or bad time, you’ve got time to learn, improve and more importantly, just find yourself.” 

Full Circle  

Since completing his apprenticeship, Louis has come full circle.  

He progressed into a full-time role with his employer and is now supporting their new apprentice, stepping into the role of mentor and role model. Now providing the guidance he once needed himself.   

Beyond his professional achievements, Louis is a proud and motivated father of two. He describes his children as his “everything” and his “motivation.” His career is not just about personal success; it is about creating stability and opportunity for his family.  

From feeling unwanted to becoming a leader who encourages others, Louis’ journey demonstrates the transformative power of opportunity, support and sport.  

Changing Lives Through Sport
