Glasgow Sport launched their first Coach Core partnership in 2013, aiming to bring high quality coaching to some of Glasgow’s most challenging communities through Coach Core’s apprenticeship programme.

The Coach Core Glasgow programme works differently to other locations, with Glasgow Sport being the sole employer for all apprentices. Additionally, unlike most other programmes, this scheme is 12 months long.

Glasgow Sport supports apprentices with a 30 hour week contract, where they have ‘on the job’ training as coaches within community sports clubs, schools and community settings. The remaining hours are spent undertaking the education programme, attending further courses and mentoring one to ones. This individual support for apprentices is key, and a one to one mentoring system has been implemented involving 17 Glasgow Sport staff and club volunteers, all of whom have knowledge of the programme.
